To the south of Chania prefecture is the beautiful Paleochora with spectacular beaches. Paleochora (or Paleohora as you might find it) is located on the southwest coast of Crete and 70 km. from Chania and 200km. from Heraklion. It is built on a peninsula between two picturesque bays. It borders the Libyan Sea and fairly considered the “Bride of the Libyan” and “Land of the Sun”. It has 2,500 inhabitants and a large number of beds in small hotels and tourist accommodation. It has perhaps the best beaches in Crete spanning 18 km. On either side of Paleochora. As an organized area resort is an ideal base for the surrounding areas. You can visit archaeological and historical sites, Byzantine churches and monasteries, museums, famous gorges like Samaria, Agia Irini etc, archeological cities like Lissos, Elyros, Kandania, caves, beaches, etc. It has daily sea transportation to Sougia, Agia Roumeli , Loutro, Sfakia, Elafonisi and Gavdos. We also have daily afternoon cruises in order to meet the dolphins and whales that exist in our region. There are several hiking trails with the European paths E4 & E1 and outside where they all end up in one of our beautiful beaches. Other water activities are swimming, surfing, water skiing, snorkeling and photos, jet ski, kite, sailing, fishing.
